All of the RTA’s taxis now have card machines

Taxis, RTA, card machines, pay for taxis, taxis in Dubai

No cash, no problem – all Dubai taxis now have card machines.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has finished installed card readers in its 10,800 cabs. No more change dramas – passengers can now pay their fare using credit or debit cards, nol cards and even their smartphones, using Apple Pay or Samsung Pay.

Khaled Al-Awadi, director of Transportation Systems at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, says: “This project has been undertaken gradually over several phases until the entire fleet of 10,800 taxis was covered. It is part of our efforts to make life easy for taxi users and enable them to pay taxi fares via sophisticated methods that limit the need to use cash for payment.”

Of course, you still pay with cash too.

However using cash money and giving directions to taxi drivers could eventually be a thing of the past, as autonomous taxis make their Dubai début.

The RTA tested driverless vehicles for three months on dedicated routes at – where else? – Dubai Silicon Oasis and we’re waiting to hear if they’re coming to roads near us soon.
