A new smart parking system alerts motorists to free spaces.
No more road rage incidents over who saw it first!
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) rolled out the service at car parking along Sheikh Zayed Road at Al Rigga and Dubai World Centre.
The system will also cut waiting times, accidents and reduce pollution, the RTA says.
More than 2,000 sensors in the ground and 70 overhead digital cameras will monitor 3,035 parking slots to give drivers instant information about vacant spaces.
All we need to do is use the ‘Find Parking’ service on RTA app. No data? Look out for 13 electronic message boards that will share info about where to park.
Maitha bin Adai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, estimates that the sophisticated new tech will “reduce traffic accidents and congestion and saves about eight minutes in the search for parking. It also improves the quality of air by curbing the carbon emissions of vehicles searching for parking space, to the tune of 239 tons of carbon dioxide per annum.”
