Menus are going to show calorie counts and that’s a good thing

Do you want to know the calorie count of everything you eat?

That’s what’s going to happen from January 2020 as part of a new drive by Dubai Municipality.

All restaurants with five branches or more must display the calorie content on menus of all their meals by November 2019.

Other establishments must follow by January 2020. So whether you’re snacking on a shawarma or indulging in oysters, you should know the calories involved.

In a statement on social media, the department said the decision was part of efforts to “promote awareness of the nutritional value of consumer meals, and to enable them to identify food information.”

Experts reckon we ideally need between 2,000 to 2,500 calories a day, depending on gender, body build and activity levels.

If you’re looking for ways to burn more, new fitness class access app ClassPass launched in October 2018 and there are also plenty of yoga studios to get your sweat on.
