Doing this on the road in Dubai could land you a AED 3,000 fine

Drivers who fail to give way to emergency vehicles face huge fines and having their cars seized.

The Ministry of the Interior has confirmed an increase in penalties for the offence to AED 3,000 and six traffic points. Offenders could also lose their car.

This comes into effect from 1st July and is hoped to reduce the number of fatalities on the roads.

Dubai Police will patrol in marked and unmarked cars and use their network of smart cameras to look out for people not moving out of the way of ambulances, police cars and official parade vehicles.

Getting to an emergency on time is a deciding factor in the severity of incidents, so it’s vital that drivers are alert and move over.

If you hear a siren, look for the vehicle and let it past. AED 3,000 is a sizable fine, but it’s a small price to pay for potentially saving lives.
