Wondering what Expo 2020 is all about? Find a flavour of it on your next shopping trip to The Dubai Mall.
An interactive pavilion is travelling around the UAE, giving a glimpse of what to expect from the region’s first ever World Expo.
Until 13th July, find it near the waterfall at The Dubai Mall, where it’s completely free to check out. However, there is one trick you need to know…
When you get there, remember the special word – saying the Emirati greeting ‘hayyakum’ triggers an animation and a sea of particles that respond to your touch.
Inside there’s a 270-degree immersive cinema, with hundreds of interactive cues, and 68 million pixel screens that will even take you on a fly-through of Expo 2020’s 4.38 square kilometre site.
After entertaining and informing visitors to one of the world’s biggest malls, the pavilion will pop up across Abu Dhabi and then all of the other emirates, making more than 60 stops. No dates or locations are confirmed for this so far.
What we do know is that Dubai will host Expo 2020 for six months from 20th October 2020 and more than 25 million people are expected to visit the site near Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai South.
What organisers are billing as “a once-in-a-lifetime experience” will have 192 pavilions dedicated to countries from around the world and global cuisine at more than 200 restaurants and diners. Expect the latest trends in food sustainability, green eating and everything from street eats to gourmet treats.
What’s the cost? A single adult day ticket is AED 120, while a three-day pass will set you back AED 260. Visitors can use that on any three days of the 173-day global celebration, FYI.
Children under five, people of determination, and seniors over 65 go free, plus students aged six to 17 and carers pay half price.
