It sounds like something from the scripts of Baywatch, but after a jet ski rider smashed into some rocks off a Dubai beach, emergency services raced into life-saving action.
The victim was plucked from breakwaters at Al Mamazar Beach with a swift and coordinated effort between Dubai Port Police and the Maritime Rescue Team.
After a call alerting authorities to the incident, an all-female rescue patrol was dispatched in what Lt. Colonel Ali Al Naqbi, director of Maritime Rescue Department, later referred to as “record time.”
He went on to praise the professionalism of the emergency response unit, who transferred the jet ski pilot to hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.
Colonel Obaid Bin Hodhaiba, deputy director of Ports Police, took the opportunity to urge beachgoers to follow safety guidelines; to avoid speeding whilst enjoying watersports and refrain from marine activities in dangerous conditions.
