Breaking news – Islamic New Year is to begin on Saturday.
In a tweet on Friday (30th August), the UAE Federal Authority For Government Human Resources (FAHR) announced that Saturday, 31st August, will be Muharram 1, 1441.
That’s the first day of the Islamic or Hijri New Year.
Previously it was announced that both public and private sector workers would enjoy a day off for the occasion.
FAHR’s tweet continued to say normal working hours will resume on Sunday (1st September).
A reminder that Saturday is a ‘dry night’ to mark the occasion. This means bars and hotels are also asked not to host live entertainment and music from 6.30pm Saturday, August 31st until 7.30pm on Sunday, September 1st.
