Heart of the matter
Mediclinic and Carrefour are collaborating for a fantastic wellness cause, World heart day. There’ll be free health screenings in multiple Carrefour locations over the course of the day, but the one in Mall of the Emirates will be running until 7pm. Prevention is the best cure and the in-store medical professionals will be able to test a range of heart-health indicators such as cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar and BMI.

Art shouldn’t have a curfew, but galleries do have a closing time. And that’s why we LOVE it when art district Alserkal Avenue holds one of their ‘Lates’ sessions. 2015 UK Masterchef, Simon Woods is taking up a flash residency in screen-to-plate gastrodrome, MasterChef, the TV Experience. He’ll be hosting a one-off special masterclass, sharing his culinary sagesse for an intimate 10 person session. You’ll get an opportunity to try your chef skills on Woods’ famous roasted monkfish. Competitive? Chef Woods will select a master-apprentice from the session – who’ll get the cost of the class back.

Plates from Palestine
Azkadenya serves up some of the most authentic home-style tastes of the Middle East, but their new Tastes of Arabia festival aims to give their specials’ board a specific regional flavour for a limited period. The current focus on Palestine means you can get hold of taste bud-blowing dishes like Kofta Warak Enab Fukhara (dreamy vine leaves stuffed with kofta meat), Palestinian Maftoul (an indulgent couscous based dish), Warbat Ashta (#desertdessertgoals) and a very special Kunafeh.

The one with the fountain
A special The Dubai Fountain performance of ‘I’ll be there for you’ by The Rembrandts takes place at 8.30pm and 9.30pm on Sunday, 22nd September. Don’t worry – nearby attractions the Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Mall aren’t on a break. The skyscraper’s huge LED screen will broadcast a special Friends-themed show during the choreographed water dance.

Today marks the last day of the 19th edition of Sharjah’s Xposure photography festival. Entry to the four-day event is free giving you the chance to be inspired by more than 1,000 images by 357 photographers. If that sets some snapping goals, industry experts will lead workshops aimed at all skill levels, which are charged separately.

Ripe for a run
Outdoor exercising is back. And the Ripe Market has an awesome opportunity to get sweaty for some weekend brekkie with a new season of Skechers Performance Runs. This is the last week of Trattoria Toscana’s special ‘Pizza Romana’ menu. For the uninitiated *gestures in Italian* Pizza Romana offers a lighter base than the traditional Neopolitan, complete with a crispy crust and Fonzie-esque swagger. There are three to choose from, including the meat-free Pizza Romana alla Caprese (datterino tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella), the Pizza Romana Quattro Stagioni (artichoke and turkey ham) and Pizza Romana al Salmone (salmon, rocket and smoked burrata).

The Artist’s Rooms series at Jameel Arts Centre will be exhibiting a Prabhakar Pachpute’s collection narrativising the art of protest in India through a series of works which include drawings and epic sculpture pieces. A blend of history, politics and challenging artwork.

Burger Fuel is a proud ambassador of New Zealand, which explains their love of the egg-shaped ball. And somewhere in the feverish build-up to the Rugby World Cup (being held in Japan) they came up with ‘The Neon Blackout.’ A fusion burger representing the cuisines of Japan and New Zealand. An all-black charcoal bun locks panko-crumbed fried chicken, crunchy soba noodle slaw, ginger-sesame dressing and tonkatsu sauce in a tight yum scrum.

Home-grown Asian food sensation The Noodle House has a limited edition special Singaporean menu, remixed and fresh out the kitchen.
