The baron of ballads, the archduke of amore, the undisputed lord of the love song, Lionel Richie will be appearing at Media City Amphitheatre as part of the 2020 Dubai Jazz Fest.
Oh what a feeling…
Yesterday we were treated to the news that Ms. Lauryn Hill would be popping in and dropping flavour on the Jazz Fest line-up. And now we know she’ll be joined by 90 million record-selling soul sensation, Lionel Richie.
Dubai’s Jazz Festival has form for picking exceptional live performers, with a penchant for mixing it up. Artists who, if not strictly classifiable as jazz acts, certainly honour the asymmetry, and deep groove that characterises the genre.
And former Commodores frontman, Richie doesn’t need much of an introduction. If you’re alive and breathing oxygen, you’ve probably heard some of his stuff: ‘Endless love,’ ‘Dancing on the Ceiling,’ erm… ‘Hello’ (way before Adele ever got the phone to her ex), ‘Once, Twice, Three Times a Lady’ (which we challenge you to read and not sing, it’s impossible).
This will be the second time he’ll have got the emirate dancing all night long. His Jazz Fest performance on the 27th February 2020 at Media City Amphitheatre will be a welcome follow-up to his tour stop there in 2014.
The dates for the Jazz Fest fall over the weekend of 26th and 28th February 2020. Tickets for the event go on sale from 8am Wednesday 6th November. Last year they were available on the website www.dubaijazzfest.com and Virgin Megastores.
Who’s getting involved? Say you, say me.
