Ever spare a thought for the people making sure schoolkids get around safely? School Transport Services devoted a whole day to appreciating its school bus drivers and support staff.
Nearly 2,800 employees of School Transport Services (STS) took over GEMS Modern Academy Nad Al Sheba for a celebration of their hard work and, as this video shows, it looks like a whole lot of fun.
Highlights included a chance to take on their colleagues in cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, tug-of-war and other fun challenges while bhangra dancers and cheerleaders performed.
For the artistic ones, a ‘Got Talent’-style show had drivers and bus attendants singing and dancing for a panel of judges, including company MD Steve Burnell, Thomas Edelman from Road Safety UAE, Ajit Kumar from Swaidan Trading, PMA Mohamed from Kings Long Buses and Celine Ribeiro from Gems Modern Academy. The winner was awarded AED 4,000, with runner-up prizes going to a shortlist of 12 talented team members.
Awards were also handed out to the employees whose “hard work and daily contributions have helped to ensure that STS school buses remain one of the best ways to provide safe, timely and smart service.”
Established in 2008, STS now transports over 70,000 students to and from school each day. Accolades for those who make this possible included Driver of the Year, Bus Guardian of the Year, Distinguished Service Award, People’s Choice Award and Safety Ambassador Award.
The event was hosted by City 1016 Radio presenters Sid and Malavika.
