 Thrift stores second hand Dubai

Second hand, thrift, op shops – whatever you know them as, Dubai has them!

Yes, we’re not all designer labels and luxe accessories – but you might find them at one of these bargainista havens. As a wise man once said: “I am stunting and flossing and saving my money and I am halla happy.” We hear you, Macklemore.

Dubai Centre for Special Needs

Support Dubai Centre for Special Needs

Bargain hunting is the thrill of the chase, right?

This centre sells clothes, shoes, books and homewares and all proceeds go to Dubai Centre for Special Needs. Basic shirts cost from AED 5 to AED 20, and prices go up to maybe AED 100 for larger items, such as a crib with a mattress. They also have pretty much everything needed to make a house home – strollers, baby toys, clothes – and a variety of books, which are about AED 5 or AED 10.

Open 9.30am-6pm, closed Fridays. Opposite Karama Fishmarket, behind Jumbo Electronics. 04 337 8246.

House of Prose

House of Prose

The bookshop also offers a 50 per cent refund on return of any book purchased from House of Prose…pretty awesome right?! Pro’ tip – buy a title or two from the Dubai Garden Centre outlet and enjoy in the leafy conservatory of Roseleaf Café.

12pm-6pm weekdays, 9am-9pm weekends. Dubai Garden Centre, near Gold & Diamond Park, Sheikh Zayed Road, 04 340 0006. Also at Jumeirah Plaza, Jumeirah Beach Road and Times Square Center, Sheikh Zayed Road.

Dubai Flea Market

Dubai Flea Market

This popular Friday market sells all second-hand items from furniture and fashion to toys and DVDs. You can even book your own table and sell your old stuff (as they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure – read our handy guide before you do).

The Flea Market appears at a different location every week, including Zabeel Park, JLT and Al Barsha, moving from mornings to evenings in the summer. Whenever you go, arrive early, bring lots of change and don’t be afraid to haggle.

Fridays, 6pm-10pm during the summer, JLT Park.
