Stay beautiful even when you’re broke with these three homemade beauty treatments.
Aimed at undoing damaged wrecked by the summer sun, these weekend treats are a perfect way to wind down when you can’t shell out for the salon.
Yoghurt and lemon body scrub
This scrub will effectively exfoliate, hydrate and moisturise your skin, and all this with ingredients available in your kitchen.
- Gram flour
- Plain yoghurt
- Sandalwood powder
Take a bowl and add 1 cup of gram flour and plain yoghurt accordingly. The concoction will be thick and gooey. Add some milk and squeeze some lemon. Mix it well again.
Add some sandalwood powder to bring the magic – it’s said to reduce scars and blemishes. Finish with some turmeric powder, but not too much because it can make you look like you’re dressing up as Minion for Halloween.
Apply the paste and let it dry. Once it’s done, just scrub it off in the shower. You can take before and after pictures to see the amazing results.
Treatment for dry hair or flaky scalp
- Full-fat yoghurt
Full-fat yoghurt will help hydrate and cool down the scalp. Add some honey to make your hair smooth and shiny and finish with an egg – this protein food is said to rehydrate dry, frizzy hair. Mix it well, apply it and keep it for 30 minutes. Wash it off with warm water or baby shampoo and love the results.
Sea salt lip scrub
- Sea salt
- Vegetable glycerin
- Rose water
Directions: Add all these ingredients and mix them well. Rose water will make the mixture gentle on your lips, while the salt will slough off dead skin and leave your lips perfectly soft.
Over the summer months, remember to keep your skin hydrated by drinking plenty of water, always wear sunscreen and try to keep your hair covered in the sun, especially if it has been coloured.
