North Korea fired an unidentified missile into the Sea of Japan

Date:

The South Korean military said on Tuesday that North Korea had fired an unidentified missile into the Sea of Japan, part of a series of tests conducted by Pyongyang in recent weeks.

The AFP news agency quoted North Korea’s joint chief of staff as saying that the missile was launched into the sea east of the Korean Peninsula without further details.

Later, the Japanese Coast Guard warned ships that North Korea had fired a missile, which could be a ballistic missile, Japan’s Kyoto news agency reported.

A week after the release of White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan’s statement, North Korea called for a halt to “serious action and US support for dialogue and cooperation between Koreans.”

Earlier, state media reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had said that the development of weapons was necessary to counter US hostile policies and South Korea’s military build-up.

In a speech at the Defense Development Exhibition, Kim said that Pyongyang is increasing its military strength for defense, not for war, according to a report released by the Korean Central News Agency.
