Aside from participating in the work of the State Parties Conference for the COP26 Framework Convention in Glasgow, United Arab Emirates, the United Arab Emirates has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Republic of Pakistan to enhance cooperation and joint action in various climates. Change and reduce its causes, adapt to its consequences, and improve the protection and safety of the environment in accordance with national laws.

It was signed by Mariam Bint Mohammed Al Muhairi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment on behalf of the Government of the United Arab Emirates and Malik Amin Aslam, Minister of Climate Change on behalf of the Government of Pakistan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

The purpose of the memorandum is to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the areas of environment and climate change, renewable energy, climate-wise agriculture, drought management, environmental education and institutional strengthening.

Mariam Bint Mohammed Al Muhairi said: “Thanks to the brilliant vision of its leadership, the United Arab Emirates is keen to build bridges of international cooperation and collaboration to enhance its strategic priorities and capabilities within its future directions.”

He added: The United Arab Emirates has close ties with the Republic of Pakistan in a number of areas, including education, health, energy, infrastructure development, food security and the environment, and enhances the level of cooperation in enhancing this MoU. Facing the challenge of environmental protection capabilities, conservation of its natural resources and biodiversity, climate change and work.

For his part, Malik Amin Aslam said: “We are very pleased to continue our cooperation with the United Arab Emirates, which has close ties, and through the Memorandum of Understanding we want to enhance our efforts to protect our land and marine ecosystems and to mitigate its causes by confronting the challenge of climate change and mitigation. Strengthening efforts to improve and with its consequences.

He added: “By reference, we will benefit from successful experiences and models in areas such as climate-wise agriculture, the use of diffusion and renewable energy solutions and increasing interest in the scientific research system. A better future for present and future generations.”

Under the Memorandum, the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan will collaborate to enhance and expand current initiatives for ecosystem restructuring, promoting the “United Nations Decade of Environmental Reconstruction” objectives, climate-smart agro-practices and renewable energy solutions, and And implementing joint training programs to qualify experts in the fields of climate change, and initiating efforts to protect marine environment and blue carbon initiatives. It will work to improve the exchange of knowledge and experiences between educational institutions, implement innovative ideas and projects from educators, and collaborate in conducting environmental research.

The objectives of the collaboration will be achieved through a set of procedures, including the exchange of information, experiences, studies and publications in the target areas for collaboration, and the exchange of visits between experts to discuss technical aspects related to the adoption of climate-wise practices. Or cooperation between centers and organizations specializing in zero-emissions technologies, and environmental and climate change research, and in collaboration with regional and international organizations related to environmental protection to implement environmental agreements to serve the interests of both parties.
