Brazil national football team striker Roberto Firmino will leave Liverpool at the end of the season eight years after joining Anfield, according to English media.
According to Sky Sports and the BBC, the 31-year-old decided to leave the Reds on a free rather than extend his contract, which expires next summer.
Firmino, who scored 102 goals in 352 appearances for the club, was instrumental in Liverpool’s return to the top of English and European football under German coach Jurgen Klopp.
Firmino, who joined Liverpool from German side Hoffenheim in 2015, won several titles with Liverpool, notably the European Champions League (2019), English Premier League (2020), FA Cup (2022), English League Cup (2022) and Club World Cup (2019).
Firmino, who formed a fearsome attacking trio with Egypt international Mohamed Salah and Senegal Sadio Mane when he moved to Bayern Munich last summer, has dropped out of Klopp’s plans this season, preferring Portuguese Diogo Jota, Colombian Luis Diaz, Uruguayan Darwin Nunes and Dutchman Cody Cagpo.
Firmino is thought to be one of five Liverpool players whose contracts expire at the end of this season, with officials embarking on a major overhaul of the squad.
Guinean midfielders Naby Keita (28) and Alex Oxlade-Camberlain (29) are expected to leave, while the futures of veteran captain James Milner (37) and Spanish third-choice goalkeeper Adrian (36) remain uncertain.
