Paris names one of its streets after David Bowie

Date:

Earlier yesterday, the city of Paris named one of its streets after rock star David Bowie, marking the first tribute to the singer eight years after his death. “David Bowie Street” was officially opened in the capital's 13th district.

Jerome Comet, mayor of the 13th district, said as he unveiled a street sign: “Long live rock music, long live pop music, long live David Bowie, long live Paris.”

Comet, a Bowie fan, floated the idea of naming the street after the singer in early 2020 and received approval from the city of Paris later that year.

The 50-meter-long street was known to urban planning authorities as “VoieDZ/13”.

Bowie, who died of liver cancer on January 10, 2016, was one of the most important and best-selling musicians of the 20th century.

Some of his most notable songs and albums include “Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars,” “Let's Dance” and “China Girl.”
