Libya releases caste Gaddafi

Date:

Official Libyan sources and evidence of the unity government Libyan authorities on Sunday released al-Saadi Gaddafi, the son of Muammar Gaddafi, who was overthrown and killed during the 2011 uprising.

Al-Saadi Gaddafi fled to Niger during the NATO uprising, but was deported to Libya in 2014 and later imprisoned in Tripoli.

He immediately boarded a flight to Istanbul, according to official sources.

Official sources added that his release was the result of talks involving key tribal figures and Prime Minister Abdel Hamid Tabaiba. Another source said that former Interior Minister Bati Pashaka was also involved in the talks.

In 2018, the Ministry of Justice ruled that al-Saadi Gaddafi was not guilty of the murder, deception, intimidation, slavery and slander of former player Bashir al-Ryani.

In July, the New York Times interviewed Sadie’s brother Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, who was detained for several years in Jindan, where his supporters say he will run in the December presidential election.
