At least 30 people have been killed or missing in floods in southern India, according to media reports.

Dozens of bodies have been recovered by rescue workers after three buses were swept away in the coastal state of Andhra Pradesh on Friday. According to the News Minute news site, at least 18 people are missing.

Experts say severe and increasing unpredictable weather in South Asia in recent years has been exacerbated by climate change, declining forests, dam construction and urbanization.

Dozens of people have died in floods and landslides caused by torrential rains in India since October.

Meteorologists have forecast heavy rains in several southern regions of the country on Saturday. Heavy rains in Kerala last month killed 42 people.

On Friday, state officials blocked access to the Sabarimala temple, one of the holiest Hindu temples, due to heavy rains.

Since last week, hundreds of Hindus have been visiting the temple daily as part of the annual two-month pilgrimage.

The Hindustan Times on Saturday reported that the authorities had forced the pilgrims to stop even for a day as the water level of the holy Pompeii River was rising.
