Veteran Serbian star Novak Djokovic advanced to the second round of the men’s singles tournament at the English Open (Wimbledon) for the third time in four major (Grand Slam) tournaments, amid comedy scenes on the main court.

Four-time champion Djokovic defeated Argentina’s Pedro Cachin 6/3, 6/3, 7/6 (7/4) in the first round of the tournament on Monday. An hour and a half after the end of the first group, due to rain, the field was high and wet, despite the size of the field.

Djokovic started to complain on court, but the officials waited until the end of the set to close the grass, which proved to be the wrong decision.

British news agency (PA Media) reported that Djokovic and Kashin went outside to check the grass, but the Serbian star (defending champion) was not happy with the wet grass, so they returned to the locker room.

World number two Djokovic reappeared with a towel and began scrubbing the court floor to laughter from the crowd, before staff tried to dry the grass using leaf blowers.

Commenting on the suspension, Djokovic said, “It was definitely disappointing for the fans and the players who were waiting for us. We both wanted to play, but the conditions were not right and the court was clear. Even though the court was closed and the roof moved, it was slippery because of the rain.”

“Once the roof is open it’s a different story. It’s the temple of tennis. Every time I go out – I usually go out with rackets, not pieces, but it was fun to do something different,” Djokovic added in his comments. , as reported by the British News Agency (PA Media).

Djokovic is looking to win his 24th Grand Slam title and hopes to win the Wimbledon championship for the eighth time in his playing career.
