600 leaders and officials at Global Future Council 2023 in Dubai

Today, the meetings of the Global Future Councils 2023 begin in Dubai, within the strategic partnership between the Government of the United Arab Emirates and the World Economic Forum, with the participation of 600 leaders and officials from the public and private sectors, international organizations, academic institutions. Experts and future visionaries will gather in 30 councils focused on shaping future paths and directions for five key sectors including artificial intelligence and technology, environment and climate, governance, society, economy and finance.

The Global Future Councils, which will continue until October 18, aim to research and anticipate the future of strategic sectors, develop integrated future visions and plans, and generate a set of solutions and ideas to address current and future challenges in the fields of economics, technology, and technology. , geopolitical changes, infrastructure, health, society and the fourth industrial revolution and others.

Mohammed Abdullah Al Gerqawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Co-Chairman of the Global Future Councils, emphasized that “the more than 20 years of partnership between the Government of the United Arab Emirates and the World Economic Forum reflect a common understanding and a high awareness of the importance of International cooperation in shaping the aspects, paths and directions of the future and affirming the country’s vision and philosophy. “The future is made now, and it’s a collective, cooperative global movement whose success is based on leadership. Al Gharqawi said, “Under the leadership of the Head of State, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and at the behest of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of the UAE, Dubai has made the future the center of government work, and making anticipating and determining it a fundamental task. “Its ultimate goal is to ensure human prosperity and a better future for future generations.” He pointed to the organization of Global Future Councils to translate this vision and embody the country’s interest in actively participating in international efforts to shape the future.

The Co-Chair of the Global Future Councils added, “The formation of the Global Future Councils coincides with a strategic partnership process between the Government of the United Arab Emirates and the World Economic Forum for more than two decades, which has produced a historic speech. The Global Future Councils represent the leading network for those concerned with shaping and creating the future in a variety of fields. They are designed to develop a deeper understanding of the most important topics in addition to existing systems and how they affect the global, regional or other. Challenges bring together the world’s most prominent experts from academia and business, government and civil society to help identify and disseminate transformative ideas with global impact.

The Future Councils meet once a year to develop the Councils’ outputs and participate in thematic groups, thereby reaching a set of outputs and recommendations that contribute to shaping the agenda of the World Economic Forum in January 2024. Topics for Future Councils 2023 include: Advanced manufacturing and the future of industrial chains. Value, artificial intelligence, autonomous mobility, care economy, cities, clean air, complex risks, cybersecurity, data justice, just transition economy, energy transition, food and water security, geopolitical challenges, good governance, economic growth, job creation, metaverse , nature and conservation, zero emission living, climate and nature philanthropy, quantum economics, flexible financial systems, responsible investment, responsible use of resources, space, sustainable tourism, synthetic biology, antimicrobial stewardship, technology policy, trade and investment.

An international platform for cooperation

Global Future Councils adopt three fundamental principles: focusing on new ideas and innovative thinking, providing an international platform for collaboration based on data, evidence, facts and research between government and private sectors, and adopting an interdisciplinary approach by bringing together thought leaders. From business, academia, society, governments and international organizations.

Since its inception in 2008 in partnership with the Government of the United Arab Emirates and the World Economic Forum, in the 14 years since, the Global Future Councils have brought together more than 12,000 participants from 100 countries.
