Zelensky wants to answer questions quickly about joining the EU

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zhelensky plans to respond within a week to questions on the basis of EU annexation talks.

“I think within a week our government will produce very quality and very quick responses,” Zelensky said in a video conference on Friday evening.

During a visit to the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, on Friday, European Commissioner Osola van der Leyen asked questions. Ukraine applied for EU membership shortly after the start of Russian military operations in the region.

The EU Commission is currently examining the request. Access to the EU is a long and complicated process – and even if the EU gives a positive rating, access negotiations may take a long time to begin.

However, Van der Leyen on Friday assured that the application process would be expedited.

Zelensky said he hoped the path would lead to success and stressed that he had no doubt that Ukraine would become part of the European Union.

“I firmly believe that we are finally close to achieving our long-term goal,” he added.
