AMD Phoenix APU with intermediate standalone GPU performance

Greymon55 claims that the integrated graphics coming in the AMD Phoenix APU may show similar performance to the more power-restricted version of the RTX 3060 mobile.

The AMD Ryzen 7000 series will officially include two mobile series: the Dragon Range for high-performance laptops and the Phoenix for thin and light designs. The latter is expected to appear now RDNA3 graphics Architecture integrated with Gen 4 compute cores.

Phoenix APUs run in the 35 to 45 watt range, i.e. the Ryzen 7000HS and 7000H series. This power is not only for graphics, but also for Zen4 cores and other integrated logic. However, Greymon’s claims (formerly referred to as Max-Q) that only an integrated RDNA3 GPU can deliver RTX 3060M performance at 60W would be big news for “lightweight” gaming.

It is worth noting that the 60W version of the RTX 3060 is not very popular in recent developments, but it has been found in laptops such as the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 since 2021, and it also supports dynamic boost (+ 20W). It is difficult to compare the two sides. However, the RTX 3060M Class GPU is 30% slower than the fully open variant with such limited power. It comes with a GPU clock in the 817-1282MHz range, which is well below the 1702MHz speed for the 115W variant.

Meanwhile, AMD has already shipped Ryzen integrated RDNA graphics with 2.4GHz clocks (Ryzen 9 6900HS). AMD Phoenix iGPU uses 5nm process technology and enhances the iGPU clock. Therefore, the Phoenix RDNA3 iGPU does not need to have multiple shaders like the RTX 3060, it should be faster.

NVIDIA aims for high quality 1080p gaming with its RTX 3060 laptops. Sure, DLSS support played a part in popularizing the 3,060 million, but AMD released its ultra-high-definition FSR technology, which could soon offer similar performance on laptops that do not even have unique GPUs.
