Adolescent mental health between reality and myth

In the recent crisis, interest in providing psychological care has increased, especially since the start of the corona pandemic, which is reflected in the mental health of people of all ages around the world. In this episode of BBC Extra, we highlight the adolescent age group where it is estimated that one in seven 10 to 19-year-olds suffer from a mental disorder.

In the context of the chapter, we discuss factors affecting adolescent mental health that are mainly related to the individual, as they extend to community, family, school, spiritual beliefs, and social networking sites.

We host a panel of young students to hear their perspective on the stories we review in the episode, as well as mental health expert Dr. Wissam Gair discusses some of the ideas or stereotypes about mental health in Between Reality. and myth.

Depression, anxiety, and conduct disorders are among the leading causes of adolescent mental illness, yet these conditions often go unrecognized and untreated.

The BBC Extra TV program highlights the unique human stories from our lives that we live and tell to Arab youth, every Thursday at 5.30pm GMT on BBC Arabic.
