The Ukrainian Ministry of Sports on Wednesday announced the resignation of the head of the anti-doping agency Ivan Korlich, following years of accusations from “Wada”.
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) says the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADEC) of Ukraine has given athletes advance notice of random out-of-competition trials in a program nearly a decade ago.
Ukraine’s Sports Minister Vadim Kutsych said in a statement that “NAdec” violated international standards for testing, so “NAdec director Ivan Korlich and his deputy, Yaroslav Kruchik, resigned today.”
The Ministry assures us that we will take a clear stand in the fight against doping and will not allow anyone to violate anti-doping rules.
The WADA investigation, known as Operation Hercules, found evidence that NADEC routinely informs athletes about test dates since 2012.
Instead of randomized out-of-competition testing, as a key feature in reactivation, the Ukrainian agency invites athletes to arrange for testing the next day at the organization’s offices.
Investigators also found that before the “Tokyo 2020” Olympics, which were postponed for a year due to the corona epidemic, the Ukrainian company classified at least six models of competing athletes as out of competition. WADA re-analyzed the six samples involved, but they came back negative.
The results of Operation Hercules will now be handed over to the World Agency’s Compliance Review Committee for possible approval.
