Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – On October 20, 2011, the world awoke to see bloody images of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi being shot in the head after being captured by rebel forces in his hometown. Sirte of Libya after ruling for four decades.

Muammar Gaddafi has a son, Muhammad, from his first wife, Fatia Nouri, and seven sons and a daughter from his second wife, Safia Farkashi. His two sons, Saif al-Islam and al-Saadi, were later arrested and imprisoned in Libya to face the death penalty.

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, 49, was jailed for five years before being released on April 12, 2016, during which time his lawyer Kareem Khan (current ICC lawyer) fled to France.

Saif al-Islam al-Gaddafi, the son of Libyan leader Muammar al-Gaddafi, has submitted his candidacy for the presidency of Libya in the December 24, 2021 election. In a post removed from its official website, Libya’s top National Electoral Commission said on Sunday that Saif al-Islam Muammar Gaddafi had “submitted his nomination papers to the election management office in Seba (south of the country) on Sunday”. The committee said he was the second candidate to submit his candidature so far. Khalifa Haftar, the leader of the so-called “Libyan National Army”, is rumored to be planning to race with the names of political figures in the former government of the National Convention.

In the chart above, we show you the family tree of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
