Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close of trade in New York, it registered a gain of 1.26%, while it rose 1.44% to consolidate its position at 1.74%.
Among the leading stocks for the day were Home Depot (NYSE: NYSE ), which rose 3.42% or 9.76 points to end at 295.12. On the other hand, 3M Group (NYSE: ) added 2.27% or 2.33 points to end at 105.11 while Nike Inc (NYSE: ) added 2.11% or 2.54 points to end the session at 122.64.
In terms of worst performance at the close of the day’s trade, Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ: ) declined 0.14% or 0.05 points to trade at 34.58 at the close. Shares in Amgen (NASDAQ: ) were up 0.10% or 0.25 points to 241.75. Coca-Cola Co. Ltd (NYSE: ) was up 0.29% or 0.18 points to end at 62.03.
On the other hand, the best performance in the S&P 500 index was recorded by a single stock. Align technology (NASDAQ: ), rose 7.15% to trade at 334.14, Tesla (NASDAQ: ) continued its rise of 6.24% and closed at 207.46 levels, while ServiceNow Inc (NYSE: ) closed up 5.58% higher. It is trading at a price of 464.18.
Among the worst performers today was Micron Technology Co. (NASDAQ: ), which fell 4.36% to close the session at 60.34 per share. Generic Holdings Inc (NYSE: ), which lost 3.55% to 108.00 shares Signature Bank (OTC:), which weakened 3.05% in today’s session to close at 0.18.
On the other hand, the best performance in the Nasdaq index was recorded by stocks Treatment with Y mAbs (NASDAQ: ), which rose 52.28% to 5.01, Guard AI Co Ltd (NASDAQ: ) continued its rise of 45.98% and closed at 7.08 levels, as well as shares Eastside Distilling Inc (NASDAQ: ) soared 45.11% to close its trade at 0.35.
Among the worst performers today was Gorilla Technology Group Inc (NASDAQ: ), which plunged 59.29% to close the session at 4.80 per share. G Clinical findings Holdings Ltd. (NASDAQ: ), which lost 45.18% to the price of 0.91, and Virgin Orbit Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: ), lost 41.19% to close at 0.20 in today’s session.
Gainers outnumbered the number of stocks that closed lower in trade with 2473 compared to 524 on the New York Stock Exchange, while 73 were unchanged. In terms of NASDAQ stock market, 2576 stocks strengthened their position, 1049 stocks retreated, while 144 stocks maintained their value.
Shares of G Medical Innovations Holdings Ltd. (NASDAQ: ) declined 45.18% or 0.75 points to end at 0.91, hitting an all-time low. Shares of Virgin Orbit Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) declined 41.19% or 0.14 points to hit an all-time low at 0.20.
It measures the implied standard deviation of options on the S&P 500 index, which traded 1.68% lower to close at 18.70.
Gold futures for June delivery were down 0.51%, or 10.15%, at $1,987.55 an ounce. In other commodities, WTI crude oil futures for May delivery rose 1.59% or 1.18 points to settle at $75.55 a barrel, while Brent oil futures for June settled up 1.50% or 1.18 points. $79.78 per barrel.
EUR/USD lost 0.55% to trade at 1.08 levels, while USD/JPY gained 0.07% to reach 132.74 levels.
Dollar index futures gained 0.44% to trade at 102.27.
