Liwa, Al Dhafra, July 24 / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, praised the competitions and activities of the Liwa Date Festival, which enjoys the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This happened during his visit to the 18th Liwa Date Festival organized by the Cultural and Heritage Festivals and Events Committee, headed by His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court. Abu Dhabi.

He noted the great role of the founding leader, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, “may God rest his soul”, who took great credit for establishing these demonstrations to encourage citizens and residents to raise agricultural production. During the visit, His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak was briefed on the many details of the date contests and the festival director, Obaid Kalban Al Masrouee, was briefed on the contests and events that took place at the festival. 23 major contests celebrating palm and summer fruits in the Emirates, and a process for submission of entries carried out according to a specific and smooth track that ensures the convenience of the participants and organizes the work followed by a judging process for the announcement of the names of the winners.

Mubarak Ali Al-Quzaili Al-Mansouri, Director of the Festival’s Repository Room, joined the tour.

His Excellency also visited the pavilion of the Cultural and Heritage Festivals and Events Management Committee, which is organizing the event, and heard from Abdullah Butti Al Qubaisi, Director of the Events and Communications Department of the Committee, about the programs and events organized by the Committee. He toured the halls of sponsors, supporters and festival participants, artisans’ corners and corridors of the popular market, which includes around 132 stalls displaying traditional products and handicrafts.

It is noteworthy that the purpose of the Liwa Date Festival is to integrate and protect the historical status of the palm tree, preserve the ancient cultural and traditional heritage of the people of the Emirates and pass it on to future generations, and support the owners of palm and fruit producing farms. and local agricultural products, to achieve sustainable agricultural development, improve food security and enable and revitalize economic mobility in the Al Tafra region, raising awareness among farmers about modern agriculture, maintaining their farms, and informing them of the best. practices, and encouraging farmers to pay more attention to the quality of produce.
