Real Madrid beat the capital Derby 2-0 at Atletico Madrid on Sunday, their tenth consecutive victory in all competitions and tightening their grip on the Spanish football league.

Kareem Benzema, who was hesitant to participate and played only the first 45 minutes, used the time on the field to score the first goal by striking a beautiful cross from Vinicius Jr.’s cross.

It was Benzema’s 17th goal of his career against Atletico, and the 13th highest scorer in the league this season.

Vinicius Jr. did not score, but he became the Man of the Match after scoring another goal in the second half, this time for Marco Asensio, who has not lost in 11 games against local rivals in the Real Madrid League.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s team are currently in first place, eight points behind second-placed Sevilla and 13-point behind fourth-placed Atletico, although he has played more than two teams.
