Sevilla coach Jose Luis Mandelbar has described his side’s first goal against Manchester United as a “transformational moment” in the game.
Manchester United progressed with two clean sheets in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals.
However, in the last 6 minutes of the clash, he conceded two goals in the friendly, falling to a 2-2 draw.
“In the first minutes of the match, it seemed as if the world was falling down around Sevilla,” admitted Mandilibar, “but football does not end there, it will last for a long time.”
The 62-year-old said, referring to Tyrell Malachia’s signature first-time reverse goal, “when the score became 2-1, the best Manchester United noticed that the best Sevilla were there too.”
The Spanish coach explained, “Because they considered their task easy, the score was 2-1 and they pulled back a bit. But they were scared because of the draw and Lisandro (Martinez)’s injury, and they asked for more time.”
British newspaper “Manchester Evening News” reports that Mandilibar attributed the changes to Seville’s progress.
“We have to try to win here, our chances are still 50%, but we want to play on our ground and between us. The fans,” Mandilibar said about the return leg, which will be held at the “Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium”.
