“Minecraft,” the video game owned by American company Microsoft that allows its users to build virtual cities, has surpassed 300 million copies, the people responsible for it announced on Sunday. It is positioned as the world’s best selling game in history.

A post on the Minecraft website said: “At the end, we passed the 300 million copies threshold, a feat no one dreamed of when we were all building our first mud houses.”

By comparison, Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold more than 180 million copies worldwide since its release in 2013, according to Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar Games, the game’s publisher.

The game “Minecraft” was released in 2011, as a result of the efforts of one person, the Swedish Markus Persson, together with others, participated in the establishment of “Mojang Studio”, through which he tried to complete his project. .

Loved by pirates and kids alike, Minecraft is based on exploring an endless world where players can collect materials (via mining) and use them to build their virtual cities.

Many consider Minecraft to be a virtual Lego game. Thanks to open source code, PC gamers can create their own items.

In 2014, the game was such a hit that Marcus Persson was able to sell Mojang Studios to Microsoft for $2.5 million.
