Change of Dates for Localization of Private Enterprise Jobs
The UAE government announced a new amendment to the Emiratization schedule for private company jobs. Previously, private companies with more than 50 employees were required to ensure the presence of 2% Emirati workers, and non-compliance with this condition would result in financial penalties.
The change is the first part of a plan called Nafs, which aims to have 10% of Emirati employees in private companies by 2026.
This goal can be achieved by increasing the percentage of citizens employed in the civilian and private sector by 2% annually until it reaches 10% by the end of 2026.
Private companies must have 2% of their total employees be national employees by the end of 2022, and increase this percentage by an additional 2% by the end of this year.
The UAE Cabinet has approved a decision to amend some regulations related to Nafisa initiatives, and the annual local employment target is now divided into two parts, according to which 1% of citizens must work in the first half of the year and an additional percentage of 1% in the second half.
Failure to meet Emiratisation targets by mid-year will result in a financial penalty, currently 6,000 dirhams per month or 72,000 dirhams per year. The value of this fine will be gradually increased by 1,000 dirhams annually until 2026.
