Video “The First Moment of Terna Flood”.. What is its truth?

Date:

Social media users have been widely circulating several videos purporting to show real-time footage of the devastation of the Terna Valley floods that Libya witnessed last week.

A widely shared clip shows a dry, sandy riverbank covered in brown, debris-laden floodwaters.

The 30-second video shows vehicles driving over a bridge over water and quickly reversing to avoid getting stuck on the bridge.

The publisher of the video wrote a comment in which he said: “Tragedy: Massive floods hit Libya. Reports say more than 5,300 dead so far. Officials say death toll could reach more than 10,000.”

Although the publisher provided accurate information about the losses of the Terna flood, the video clip was shot seven years ago and was shot on another continent, thousands of kilometers away, the agency said.Associated Press“.

According to the agency, the video shows torrents hitting Wadi al-Farsha area in Tihama Qahdan, Saudi Arabia in April 2016.

The region usually experiences flooding during the rainy season, which occurs most of the year through a dry valley, according to local media, including the “Ajel” electronic news website, which shared the video at the time.

Satellite images taken from Google Maps of the Wadi El Farsha area match the rugged hilly terrain and distinctive red, gray and yellow buildings seen in the video, the company says.
