The Prime Minister of Syria, Hussein Arnes, thanked the United Arab Emirates for the excellent organization of the Twenty-Eighth Conference of the Parties and for the warm welcome.

In his speech during the proceedings of the COP28 Conference of Parties, Arnes stressed that Syria is involved in global efforts to combat climate change, mitigate its effects and adapt to it.

Accelerate climate action

The Syrian Prime Minister added that now is the time to work hard to push forward climate action, accelerate the pace of improved and sustainable emissions reductions through energy transition and land use, transition to sustainable food systems, and implement systems to reduce losses and damages. , and performance of duties.

He pointed out that financing is a “cornerstone” of climate action, as mitigation, adaptation, reducing losses and damages and deploying climate technology require adequate financing.

Syria’s Prime Minister Hussein Arnes said that Syria is suffering from the effects of climate change, as evidenced by reduced rainfall, a worse incidence of dust storms and droughts that have exacerbated the problem of desertification. Imbalance in rainfall distribution, and flash floods, heat waves, air pollution due to acts of terrorism, seizing and burning of oil pipelines and wells and others.

During COP28, within the framework of the UAE Declaration on a Global Framework for Climate Finance, more than 10 parties introduced a roadmap for more financing on concessional terms and at appropriate prices.

The announcement builds on a set of initiatives that have paved the way for raising and mobilizing climate finance this year, and mobilizes the efforts of a group of climate action leaders in multiple regions around a vision.
