Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp said on Wednesday that midfielder Diego Alcandara’s injury was not as bad as he feared, raising expectations that he would play in Saturday’s Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Diego appeared to be suffering from a hamstring injury in Sunday’s final Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, and the Globe initially said he could miss the Spanish Champions League in Paris.

Although the Spanish player did not train on Wednesday, German coach Diego pointed out that he could train on Thursday, after tests showed that the injury was less than he thought.

“Currently he has the opportunity, he can take part in tomorrow’s training, it will be very useful,” Globe told a news conference.

“It’s surprisingly good. I’m not really optimistic after the match, but we got the news last night that it did not look bad.”

Globe confirmed that the players had already overcome the disappointment of losing the Premier League title dramatically in favor of Manchester City on the final day of the tournament.

“No one has been in pain since Sunday. We’re really looking forward to the next match against an incredibly strong opponent, perhaps the most experienced opponent in the tournament, but we look forward to the game,” he said.

Defender Virgil van Dijk, who has not played for Liverpool since recovering from an injury in the FA Cup final against Chelsea on May 14, has fully recovered.

“Yes, I’m fine and fully recovered,” Van Dijk said on Liverpool’s website.

“No problem. I’m very excited about Saturday’s match. Of course, my body relaxes after many matches and many hard times,” he added.

He added, “I think the slight injury I suffered after the cup final was a sign that my body needed to rest.”
