Asma Al-Husseini (Khartoum, Cairo)

Amid heavy security escalation and austerity measures, protests took place yesterday in the Sudanese capital Khartoum and in several states calling for protest groups, forces for freedom and change and Sudanese parties and unions. The third anniversary of the demonstrations on June 30, 2019, which led to a joint agreement between the civilian and military forces, ended on October 25 with procedures taken by the military.
Demonstrations demanding the handing over of power to the people, marking the 33rd anniversary of the coup of former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, which has opened the door to Islamic rule in Sudan for 30 years.
The Central Committee of Sudanese Physicians announced that 4 protesters had been killed by security forces’ bullets during the Omdurman protests, a fifth had fallen in Omdurman and a sixth had been suffocated by tear gas in Khartoum north of Kartoum. An adult boy has been killed in a protest in northern Khartoum.
Sudanese authorities have cut off internet services for the first time in months, and completely cut off telephone communications, including internal communications and SMS services.
Sudanese security forces closed all bridges connecting the Sudanese capital, except for the Sofa and Halfaya bridges.
