Eight Conservative Candidates for UK Prime Minister

The Race to Downing Street campaign has officially begun, with eight Conservative MPs vying to replace outgoing British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, with the support of at least 20 peers.

Unsurprisingly, former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak, former Defense Secretary Benny Mordant, Secretary of State Liz Truss and Representative Tom Tagendat have the support of 20 colleagues to officially run, as announced Tuesday by the 1922 Committee. ; It is a conservative parliamentary group.

New finance minister Nazim Zahawi, government legal adviser Suila Braverman, former equalities minister Kimi Badenoch and former health minister Jeremy Hunt are also in the running.

Boris Johnson resigned as leader of the Conservative Party on Thursday. But he will remain prime minister until his successor is known on September 5.

As of today, all eight candidates must secure the support of 30 delegates during the first ballot. If necessary, the second surgery will be done on Thursday and the third surgery on Monday.
