Microsoft is turning Edge into a cryptocurrency wallet

Date:

Microsoft plans to add a new feature to its browser, Edge, to act as a cryptocurrency wallet.

Microsoft recently added a lot of interesting and impressive features to the Edge browser, which over time has already become a contender among the best web browsers, surpassing Mozilla Firefox and the third most used in the world after Google Chrome and Apple Safari. .

According to information released by Alphacore, a software analyst interested in covering Microsoft news, the latest beta version of the Edge browser was found to contain only a digital currency wallet-like feature.

He explained that Microsoft is secretly testing a new wallet feature for cryptocurrencies in the Edge browser to hold and manage digital currencies directly through the program, without using third-party wallets.

The researcher shared a screenshot showing that this new wallet can be used for cryptocurrency payments and acts as a gateway for DeFi and Web3 applications.

The screenshot also shows the interface design of the new cryptocurrency wallet. You’ll find tools like App Explorer, a news feed, and the option to buy cryptocurrency through Coinbase and MoonPay.

Microsoft provided a written guide explaining the feature: “This is a non-custodial wallet, which means you have full control over your money, but we don’t have access to your password and recovery key. Edge is integrated into the browser, making it easy to use without installing external add-ons.

While Microsoft did not specify which cryptocurrencies this new wallet supports, the screenshot revealed that users can manually add custom tokens to their wallets.

One good thing about this new wallet is that users can browse and buy NFTs from all popular markets. Microsoft hasn’t officially released the new wallet because the company is still developing it, but it will arrive in future updates.

It should also be noted that all the tools and features that enter the testing phase are not implemented in the end, they are in the experimental stage and it is not clear whether they will eventually come or the company will back off from the idea.
