China set a record with 201 gold medals

Date:

China topped the medal table with 201 gold medals when Taiwan’s Gu Xiaozhuang won the last gold at the Hangzhou edition on Sunday, wrapping up the Asian Games.

In karate, he won the gold in the under 50kg category by defeating Kazakhstan’s Muldir Tsangperbai. Before that, Japan defeated Macau to win the men’s Kada gold medal as the karate competitions brought down the curtain on more than two weeks of competition at the Asian Games, featuring 12,000 male and female athletes in 40 sports.

According to Agence France-Presse, China broke its previous record, winning 201 gold medals.

In this year’s edition, China won 111 silver and 71 bronze medals, with a total of 383 medals in various metals.

China finished the tournament by a significant margin from Japan, which won 188 medals, including only 52 gold, and South Korea, which won 190 medals, including 42 gold.

China won its first gold in rowing on a rainy morning two weeks ago. Feng Yu won his 201st gold medal in pool and synchronized swimming.

“We had a lot of expectations for these games and we hope we will do well,” Yu said, “but we were not satisfied with some performances today, so everyone is still a little nervous.”

He continued: “We are very happy to have qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris.”
