Abu Dhabi Natural History Museum launches project and a famous dinosaur in its most important collections

Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Saeed Al Nahyan, a member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Committee and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, initiated the project to establish a Natural History Museum in Abu Dhabi, which would be the latest addition to the Caste Island Cultural District. .

Completing in 2025, the museum will take visitors on a journey 13.8 billion years ago, prompting thinking about ensuring a sustainable future for the planet.

The skeleton of the famous “Stan” Tyrannosaurus, 11.7 meters long, will be one of the highlights of the new museum and is considered one of the best preserved and highly explored fossils of this hunt since the late Cretaceous. WAM.

Stan, who lived 67 million years ago, will continue to support scientific research and research efforts worldwide through his new headquarters at the Natural History Museum in Abu Dhabi.

In addition to Stan, the new museum will house the Mercedes meteorite, which will allow scientists to discover new information about the formation of the solar system.

WAM points out that the museum’s collection includes many unique artefacts and a number of unique experiences developing in a strategic partnership with leading scientists, international experts and natural history experts in Abu Dhabi.

Covering an area of ​​more than 35,000 square meters, the museum has been designed by leading architectural firm McConaughey to reflect natural rock formations, reflecting its purpose of enhancing understanding of the natural world.

In its design, the building uses pentagonal geometry as the main theme that reflects the pentagonal shape of the cellular structure of the natural world.

Water and plants play an inherent role in design, and they are important symbols of desert life.

Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi plans to develop the Natural History Museum in collaboration with a company that specializes in development, target management and high-speed experiences.

Head of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak said: “Today, more than ever, we need to promote awareness about the future of the planet and our impact on it … Natural History is taking over. There is a new home in a museum in Abu Dhabi Emirates. It tells the story of our world through a group of the most amazing natural wonders known to mankind.

The new museum connects with various cultural properties in the Caste Cultural District, including the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the upcoming Saeed National Museum and the Kuganheim Abu Dhabi.

The opening of these museums is part of Abu Dhabi’s strategy to establish itself as a hub for culture, the arts and creativity.
