DCT Abu Dhabi Opens Public Nominations for ‘Urban Treasures 2026’ Awards

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has opened nominations for the fifth edition of its annual Urban Treasures awards, inviting the public to celebrate the long-standing establishments that have become part of the emirate’s cultural and social identity.

Open until 30 November, the nomination process allows residents and visitors to put forward local businesses that have served the community for more than two decades. Eligible establishments include cafés, restaurants, bakeries, sweet shops, tailors, perfumeries, jewellers, pharmacies, photography studios, and textile stores. Following a six-month evaluation period, 15 of these enduring institutions will be recognised at the annual Urban Treasures awards ceremony.

Now in its fifth year, the Urban Treasures initiative pays tribute to the businesses that have helped shape Abu Dhabi’s transformation into a modern, multicultural capital. These establishments have contributed to the city’s distinctive character, promoting community spirit while strengthening the local economy.

The programme also reflects DCT Abu Dhabi’s wider mission to safeguard the emirate’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage. By spotlighting beloved neighbourhood icons, DCT Abu Dhabi ensures that the people and places defining everyday life are acknowledged as essential threads in the city’s cultural story.

Residents are encouraged to reflect on what makes a place feel like home — whether it’s the bakery visited before school, the tailor who served generations of a family, or the restaurant where countless memories were made. Each nomination honours the establishments that form the heart of Abu Dhabi’s urban history.

Businesses recognised as Urban Treasures receive exclusive promotional support and branded materials, reinforcing their status as local landmarks for both residents and tourists.

Nominations for Urban Treasures 2026 can be submitted via the online form. For further information, or to explore previous Urban Treasure awardees, visit Abu Dhabi Culture.
