El Ghouna – “Al Quds Al Arabi”: Following the controversy over the screening of the film “Feathers” at the Ghouna Festival, the management of the El Ghouna Film Festival issued a statement following some allegations that it had insulted Egypt:
Over the past four years, the El Ghana Film Festival has provided many activities in the field of promoting the art of cinema and reviving Egyptian tourism. The festival is conducted in collaboration with the Red Sea Governorate and is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of the Interior, which owns the festival Egypt and affirms allegiance.
The El Gauna Film Festival appreciates the creativity and unique cinematic experiences of filmmakers from all over the world. The festival committee selects films only in accordance with the standards of international film festivals based on their art and cinema quality.
This year, in its fifth edition, the selection of Egyptian director Omar al-Zuhairi’s film “Feathers” came in line with the criteria for selecting films, based on his success in some international forums. International Critics’ Week Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, one of the largest international festivals. This is the first Egyptian film to receive such a prestigious award. It also won the Grand Prix of the Pingyao Festival in China yesterday. That too was selected and will be shown at its next session at the Carthage Film Festival. The Egyptian Ministry of Culture honored the film and its crew at an event before the start of the El Gauna Film Festival.
Therefore, he was chosen to screen at the El Gauna Festival as part of a global interest in the Egyptian issue in the fields of art and culture, especially in the 125-year history of Egyptian cinema, which did not receive this award.
