ABU DHABI, October 28, 2017 – Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the activities of the World Gatta Championship will conclude tomorrow, Sunday at the Sorbonne University Hall in Abu Dhabi. 288 male and female players representing 35 countries participated in the tournament.
The final rounds of the “Katami no Kata” (under-23) tournaments will be held tomorrow, followed by the “Jo no Kata” U-23 tournaments, the senior “Kimi no Kata” tournaments and the Kodokan Goshin-jutsu (senior) tournaments.
The judo group was led by Japan with 404 points, followed by South Korean teams (394 points), Iran (382 points), Italy and Poland (352 points each) and the Emirates. (331 points), then Luxembourg (274 points) one point).
The representatives of the International Judo Federation overseeing the competition appreciated the large equipment provided by the UAE for the competition and the advanced infrastructure in all the facilities. During the activation ceremony and referees’ meeting, the delegation confirmed the tournament to be held in Abu Dhabi during the Qatar Committee Conference. The President of the Judo Federation, His Excellency Mohammed bin Taloub Al Tare, praised the performance of the national team at the recently concluded Judo Grand Slam Abu Dhabi, continuing its brilliance during its participation in the 2023 season. In the presence of Nasser Al Tamimi, Secretary General of the International Federation and Treasurer of the National Olympic Committee, during his conversation with the teammates, he explained that the achievement was proud and that he wanted to continue. Al-Tarai renewed his appreciation for the efforts of coach Victor and the management staff, comparing the significant technical development in the performance of all members of the team and its results, and the results that took it to the top of the list of Arab teams.
