MENA Golf Tour Begins First Egypt Swing at New Giza

The MENA Golf Tour will begin its first Egypt Golf Series this Sunday, as an international field competes at New Giza Golf Club. The four-tournament swing will offer a total prize fund of USD $400,000, along with valuable Official World Golf Ranking points.

The opening event, Egypt Golf Series New Giza, runs from 19 to 21 January. It starts a four-week run that will take players to three leading golf courses in Egypt before the Tour moves on to Morocco. Each tournament will offer USD $100,000 in prize money and ranking points, raising the stakes for players chasing a strong position on the MENA Golf Tour Rankings.

Italy’s Ludovico Addabbo arrives in Egypt in strong form after a wire-to-wire win at the PGA Aroeira Challenge in November. The 27-year-old currently sits second in the rankings and will aim to close the gap on leader Chris Wood, who will not compete in Cairo.

Scotland’s Aidan O’Hagan, who challenged Wood at the Rolear Algarve Classic in December, will look to claim his first title. He joins compatriot Sebastian Sandin and Welshman Toby Hunt, both inside the top five. Austria’s Aron Zemmer also returns after showing strong form during the Portugal events.

The field also includes players with DP World Tour experience, such as Spain’s Alejandro Cañizares and England’s Ashley Chesters. Jordan Wrisdale, who has shown good form this season, will also compete.

Egypt will be represented by professionals Ahmed Morgan and Nour Shibl. They will be joined by amateurs Issa Abou El Ela, Mohamed Abou El Ela, Abdelmonem El Shafei and Adam Elshamy. More local players may qualify through the Nomaan Professional Championship qualifier taking place this week.

New Giza Golf Club, designed by Thomson, Perrett & Lobb, will host the opening event. The course sits on the western edge of Cairo and offers risk-and-reward holes. It has built a strong reputation as one of the region’s top golf venues.

After New Giza, the Tour will move to Address Marassi Golf Resort on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast. Two events will take place there from 24 to 26 January and 29 to 31 January. The series will end back in Cairo at Madinaty Golf Club from 3 to 5 February.

MENA Golf Tour Chairman and Commissioner Keith Waters said the Egypt Series marks a key moment for the Tour.

“We are thrilled to bring the MENA Golf Tour to Egypt for what promises to be an exceptional four weeks of championship golf. The partnership with the Egyptian Golf Federation has been instrumental in making this happen, and we’re delighted to see Egyptian players competing alongside our international field. With USD $400,000 in total prize money and OWGR points available across all four events, the Egypt Series offers a tremendous opportunity for players to climb the MENA Golf Tour Rankings and take their careers to the next level.”

The Egypt Golf Series New Giza will start on Sunday 19 January.
