Paris Saint-Germain coach Argentina Mauricio Pochettino has stressed the importance of a 4-2 win over hosts Brest in the opening matches of the third round of the French league in the new season of 2021-2022.
Pochettino spoke after the match: “I think we played well especially in the first half, but unfortunately we conceded two goals, which made the last 5 minutes of the match very difficult.
He added: “Winning and collecting three points before the international break is very important during this period. Being in the lead and having 9 points is essential to boost our confidence and we need to develop playing in the upcoming matches.”
He continued, “We need to be more flexible on the offensive side and we need to improve defensive features and prevent the opposing team’s offensive changes.”
Saint-Germain took a 2-1 lead in the first half, with Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera scoring the first goal for Paris in the 23rd minute with a powerful direct shot from outside the penalty area.
Kylian Mbabane scored Paris Saint-Germain’s second goal in the 37th minute with a superb header, the second goal of the season.
Mbappe scored his fourth title goal in the French league, the first vertical goal with Monaco since March 19, 2017.
In the 42nd minute, Frank Honorut scored the first goal for Brest Stadium and reduced the deficit at the end of the first half.
In the second half, Paris Saint-Germain’s third goal was scored by Senegalese Idrissa Gana Kaye in the 73rd minute with a rocket from outside the penalty area, while striker Steve Munier scored Prestin’s second goal in the 85th minute.
In the last minute of the match, Argentine substitute Angel de Maria, who took the place of Mbappe, scored the fourth goal for Saint-Germain with the help of Moroccan Ashraf Hakimi.
