The 2025 IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships roared to life on 2 December at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium, delivering an electrifying Opening Ceremony that combined world-class sport, show-stopping entertainment and cultural celebration in unforgettable style.
With Dubai’s skyline as its backdrop and coinciding with UAE National Day, the event marked the beginning of the International Boxing Association’s first-ever Festival of Boxing, which runs from 2–13 December.
Under dazzling lights and fireworks, fans experienced a milestone moment that showcased Dubai’s rapid rise as a global sporting destination while signalling a bold new era for world boxing under the IBA.
Global rap icon Rick Ross led the show, thrilling the packed stadium with a high-energy performance of his biggest hits. His trademark charisma had the crowd roaring and set the tone for a night where elite boxing and music fused seamlessly.
Ross’ performance reinforced the World Championships as the most entertainment-focused event ever staged in amateur boxing, joining an impressive line-up of internationally acclaimed performers.
Egor Kreed, one of the most streamed artists across the CIS region, delivered a high-octane performance, while Dubai favourite Kris Fade highlighted the UAE’s cosmopolitan spirit with a lively, engaging set.
Italian vocal sensation Benedetta Caretta stunned the audience with emotional renditions, including Celine Dion’s iconic “My heart will go on”, before boxing great Roy Jones Jr. took to the stage to perform his famous tracks ‘Can’t Be Touched’ and ‘Y’all Must’ve Forgot’.
Together, the performers transformed the opening into a global showcase mirroring the diversity of the athletes from more than 118 nations who were presented on stage.
The ceremony also carried deep cultural resonance, honouring the UAE’s National Day and celebrating the country’s unity, ambition and growing influence in world sport.
A dedicated segment featuring traditional Emirati performances highlighted the nation’s heritage and its commitment to sporting excellence.
IBA President Umar Kremlev reflected on the significance of the event: “This year the celebration of boxing is taking place here, in a magnificent city of Dubai. I am happy to see everyone — the boxers, the coaches, and every National Federation present here starting together the great Boxing Festival. I congratulate everyone on this historical occasion.”
He also addressed competitors directly, saying: “I wish you all success in the ring — show the world the best of you! Remember: the IBA if your Home of Boxing, we exist because of our athletes and coaches. I am proud that today I stand beside athletes from more than 100 countries — we are all different, yet united by our love for the sport we value.”
A powerful emotional moment came from Rasheda Ali, daughter of the legendary Muhammad Ali, who spoke alongside her son, boxer Nico Ali Walsh: “I am proud that Mr. Umar Kremlev and the IBA are carrying forward my father Muhammad Ali’s legacy. My father believed in courage, respect and giving athletes a fair chance – and tonight, I see that spirit alive in Dubai.”
With a record-breaking prize fund of $8.32 million, the 2025 Championships are officially the most valuable amateur boxing event in history.
Over the coming days, athletes from across the world will compete for medals, opportunity and sporting immortality.
From its impeccable production to its fusion of culture, entertainment and elite sport, the Opening Ceremony established Dubai not just as a venue, but as a new global standard for major sporting events.
As the focus shifts from the grand stage to the ring, one truth stands out: the IBA has transformed the blueprint for a boxing championship — and the world is watching.
