The Saudi Football Association announced today, Saturday, the first edition of the Saudi Women’s Football League, a step within the time frame set by the federation within the framework of the Women’s Football Support Program since 2017.

The league, which starts on November 22, will be held in two phases by the Region League, with 16 teams taking part in the first phase.

The teams that finish in the top three in Riyadh and Jeddah and first and second in Dammam will qualify for the Kingdom Finals Championship to be held in a competitive knockout format at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah early next year. .

For his part, Yasser bin Hassan al-Mishal, chairman of the Saudi Federation of Directors, pointed out that the announcement was an important moment in the federation’s march, pointing to the launch of the first official league in the kingdom. One of the goals of the federation is to start a specialized field for women’s football.

Al-Mishal added in a statement on the Saudi Federation’s website on Saturday: “Today we live in this moment, thanks to God and the unlimited support of all sectors, especially our brilliant leadership.” Football. “

Al-Mishal explained that the preparation of all the rules and regulations for the league has been completed, stressing the Federation’s interest in implementing and adhering to them due to the importance of this edition in the path of Saudi women’s football, and wished success to all participants. Tournament teams.

Lamia bin Bahian, a member of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Federation and Director of the Department of Women’s Football, expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the prudent leadership for the boundless support and attention that women’s football enjoys.

Al-Tahadi, Sama, Al-Hima, Al-Sarham Al-Sarqa, Al-Yamama (Central), Al-Asifa, Jeddah Eagles, Ittihad Al-Quwa and Flaming Ball are among the sixteen clubs participating in the three regions. , Al-Leed al-Abiad (west), al-Sharqia, al-Wala, al-Waha and al-Nisur Union (east).
