US-British agreement to remove taxes on steel and aluminum

Washington (AFP)
The United States has announced that Washington will eliminate fines imposed by the administration of former President Donald Trump in 2018 on British steel and aluminum exports and that it has entered into an agreement with Britain. US Trade Secretary Gina Raymondo and US Trade Representative Catherine Day said in a joint statement: “This important agreement will not only help ensure the long-term credibility of the steel and aluminum industries, but also protect Americans.” Raises jobs, as well as retaliatory taxes of more than $ 500 million on exports. “
The report comes after British International Trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan visited the United States.
Travelian said he was optimistic about the possibility of an agreement to resolve the dispute, which is poisoning relations between the two countries.
In January, the two countries announced that they would begin bilateral talks to end the controversy that has been inherited since the Trump era.
In June 2018, the Trump administration imposed additional tariffs on steel and aluminum imported by the United States from several countries, including Britain. These penalty duties are 25% on steel and 10% on aluminum.
In October, President Joe Biden’s administration reached another similar agreement with the European Union and in February with Japan.
