The junior team sets its sights on reaching the final of the eighth edition of the Western Junior Championships, which will face its “host” Saudi teammate tomorrow, Saturday at 8pm, with Prince Mohammed bin Fahad at the semifinals in Dammam to witness the first clash, starting at 4pm -Syria match.
After two consecutive 4-1 victories over Syria in the first round and finishing second in the second group with 6 points, Abiat Jr. pre-registered his seat in the “Golden Square”. To set a date with his brother 2-0, Saudi Arabian qualifier Al-Akhtar defeated Lebanon 2-1 in the first round, beating Iraq 2-1 to top Group A with 6 points. 3-0 in the second round.
The list of semi-finalists includes Yemen and Syria. After the first “groups” round is held in a one-level league, the champions of each team and the best runner-up team advance to the semi-finals, after which the winners advance to the final.
Saudi Arabia, the leaders in Group 1, the United Arab Emirates, the leaders in Group 2, and Yemen in Group C qualified, with Syria, the second-best team with 3 points, and its rivals Iraq and Jordan by a goal difference.
It is noteworthy that the Saudi team won the title of the last edition of the “Seventh Edition” of the Western Asian Junior Championship 2019 held by Jordan with the participation of teams from Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria. Lebanon, Kuwait, Bahrain, Palestine, Iraq and Oman.
