The World Health Organization (WHO) has made an urgent appeal for $ 257.6 million to meet key health needs in Syria, maintain basic health care, including responding to COVID-19, provide life-saving services, and create a resettlement health system.

By 2022, the World Health Organization estimates that 12.2 million people will need health care, including four million displaced people, 1.33 million children under the age of five (including expected 503,000 births) and 3.38 million stillbirths.

According to the United Nations news website, half a million elderly people will need comprehensive health care in addition to those affected by non-communicable diseases, which account for 45 percent of deaths in Syria.

The organization pointed out that Syria already has a weak health system, which has been repeatedly stressed by multiple emergencies and challenges simultaneously, as a result of the persistent insecurity, corona epidemic and weak social and economic crisis.
