Corrected in the open
When we get something wrong we correct it promptly and say so in the article.
Sourcing
- We report from official and primary sources: government departments and authorities, regulators, Dubai Police, the courts, official statistics, and companies’ own announcements and filings.
- We link to the source wherever one is published online, so readers can check it for themselves.
- Where a story relies on a source that is not public, we say what kind of source it is and how we checked it.
- All published work is original or properly attributed. We do not tolerate plagiarism.
Accuracy and verification
- We check facts, figures, names, dates and prices against the source before publication, and seek a second source where a claim cannot be confirmed from the first.
- Rules, fees and deadlines are checked against the authority that sets them.
- We do not knowingly publish false or misleading information.
- Stories carry a byline so that readers know who is responsible for them. Short updates compiled from official announcements are published under the Dubai Week Desk byline.
Reporting within UAE law
- We do not publish allegations against named people or companies unless they come from an official statement or from a court.
- Crime and court reporting is based only on what Dubai Police, other UAE authorities or the courts publish officially. We name suspects or defendants only where the authorities have released their names.
- Reporting on government matters is based on official statements and published decisions.
- We respect people’s privacy unless disclosure is clearly in the public interest, and we avoid unnecessary intrusion into grief or distress.
Press releases
We welcome press releases, and we treat them as tips. We check what a release says against the company’s own records or an official source, add the details readers need, and report it only if it is useful to readers. We do not paste press releases or publish them unchanged, and sending one does not guarantee coverage.
What’s On listings
What’s On covers openings, events and food. Listings give the dates, prices, area and booking details as supplied by the venue or organiser and checked by us where possible. They are presented as listings, not as news.
Explainers
Dubai Explained guides set out the rules as they stand on topics such as the Golden Visa, residency, tenancy, labour law, driving and fines. Each guide states the date it is correct as at, links to the official source, and is reviewed and updated when the rules change.
Independence
- Editorial decisions are made independently of commercial, political or personal interests. Advertisers, partners and the owner do not decide what we cover or how.
- Any conflict of interest relevant to a story is disclosed in that story.
Partner content
Partner content is written by or for a third party. It is always labelled “Partner content”, it never appears on the homepage or in our news sections, and it is not included in Google News. Dubai Week is not accepting partner content at present.
